*Mental Health First Aid teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The course introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health concerns, builds understanding of their impact and provides an overview of common treatments. Through role-playing and simulations, it demonstrates how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions; provide initial help; and connect people to professional, peer and social supports as well as self-help resources: https://www.thenationalcouncil.org/about/mental-health-first-aid/

Suicide Prevention Trainings
- safeTALK training (in-person) - TBA
- Living Works START (90-minute online program) - TBA
- Recognize, Respond, React (online) - TBA
According to the National Mental Health Association, an estimated 1,088 suicides occur on college and university campuses each year, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among college-age students.
Research has shown that supportive social relationships and feeling connected to campus, family and friends are protective factors that can help lower suicide risk. This area includes core objectives aimed at promoting inclusiveness on campus: identifying and reaching out to disconnected and isolated students and supporting connectedness among traditionally marginalized or higher-risk student groups. Ideally, students will be comfortable with and knowledgeable about asking for help. However, it’s important to promote help-seeking by reducing the burden of stigma associated with mental health problems and increasing access to mental health resources and support. (NAMI)
