Hazing Prevention Programming
Hazing Prevention Week
Held annually during the last week in September, WVU Potomac State College engages with the National Hazing Prevention Week by providing a viewing of the “Breathe, Nolan, Breathe” documentary, focusing on the hazing death of Nolan Burch at WVU. Strategies for hazing prevention are provided at length, including a panel discussion. Student groups who are mandated to attend are: athletic teams, SGA (student government association), and student organizations.
Hazing Prevention Awareness & Education
An online training course available to all students and employees across the WVU System that is evidence-based and teaches participants what hazing is, how to identify it and how to specifically report it, while offering strategies for hazing eradication.
HAZE
Offered by personnel from WellWVU (Morgantown campus) upon request, this program includes an educational film on the dangers of hazing and the importance of reporting the act.
Hazing Prevention Task Force
Established in 2017, the Task Force exists to increase active awareness and understanding of hazing in the University community. It is a collaborative body of faculty, staff and students committed to strategizing the intentional eradication of hazing at West Virginia University, including representation from regional campuses (Potomac State College and WVU-Tech).
